Increasing cash flow and legacy wealth for families, investors, and trusts

The Family Real Estate Wealth Strategist

Tony Rishell is a private wealth real estate consultant who partners with families to assess, plan, and implement multigenerational real estate wealth strategies. These real estate families lean on his experience to shape a comprehensive estate plan with their legal, tax, and financial advisors. Succession considerations follow, both within the family trust framework and in entity governance. Family meetings are facilitated, and the family culture is promoted. All the while, Tony works with the family leaders to integrate structured asset management practices in a way that supports estate and succession plans, so that family partners and inheritors have greater confidence in the operation of the portfolio. Tony is particularly passionate about coaching the rising generation of family leaders, whether this is into trust administration, real estate asset management, property performance, or family governance. He leans on strong relationships and simple, clear cash flow analytics to help families make prudent decisions for their real estate legacy.

Prior to starting his consultancy Tony worked for twenty years with his family's enterprise, managing and preparing multifamily and commercial property in Uptown Oakland for redevelopment. He then worked with a corporate trustee for five years as a real estate asset manager, navigating complex client relationships with affluent, HNW, and UHNW families to oversee real estate portfolios going through estate settlement or long-term trust administration.

Wealth Leadership

Here is the path I lead my clients down, as advisor, consultant, or collaborator:

01

Assess

We start by getting to know my clients and their real estate, interviewing stakeholders to get clear on individual, private financial, and family goals and concerns, and to understand how the family real estate integrates with the family office. We then turn to the real estate, evaluating property operations and financial performance in conjunction with lease documents and management agreements. The contribution of these assets to the portfolio strategy are mapped to a review of the family's overall estate and succession plan.

02

Align

We partner with family advisors to develop real estate strategies that align with a new or reformed family wealth plan addressing long-term stakeholder goals and concerns, as well as performance weaknesses and strategic opportunities that surfaced with the initial assessment. Property business plans and portfolio strategies are formed with an eye to cash flow and generational wealth transfer, while also considering shared use and ownership of family legacy properties like residences, vacation homes, and iconic trophy assets.

03

Implement

Immediately after planning, or upon a triggering event, we are engaged to put the real estate aspects of the family wealth plan into action. This could mean we step in as the family's real estate asset manager, or we consult a family member that has been groomed for that role. We might be called on to advise on the sale of the family portfolio as part of estate settlement, or dig in as the family’s preferred agent. Ultimately, opportunities to amplify the family's multigenerational financial and interpersonal wellbeing are acted upon, while risks to the family's legacy, real estate value, and property cash flows are isolated and addressed.
